Research Assistants Needed

Dr. Kang Lee’s Development Lab is looking for highly dedicated and enthusiastic students to volunteer with us!

You will be involved in a study examining how children’s emotion expressions can be used to understand lie-telling behaviours. Our goal is to offer volunteers many opportunities to develop their research skills. Thus, as a volunteer, you will;

– Be involved in computer-based data preparation tasks

– Code and record results

– Perform other administrative tasks in the laboratory

– Other tasks/opportunities depend on prior experience and on length of stay in the lab, including the opportunity to be involved in other, on-going research projects.

This position is ideally suited for a student studying Psychology and who is interested in pursuing graduate school in the future. It is a great opportunity for students who have an interest in forensic and/or developmental psychology.

We encourage students going into 2nd and 3rd year to apply. Students in 4th year who plan to take a year off or will complete a 5th year are also welcome to apply. We are looking for a highly motivated student interested in pursuing graduate studies that is research-based and is seeking a lab to develop their research skills.

Training on most of the skills needed will be provided. However, volunteers should have experience with a range of computer programs, including statistical and video-editing programs (e.g., Excel, SPSS, Adobe Premier, MovieMaker, iMotions), have a strong attention to detail, great organization skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Duration: Ongoing, minimum 6-month commitment required.

Schedule: Volunteers should be available weekdays during regular work hours (weekend and weekend evening availability will also be considered). Scheduling is flexible and volunteers will be able to determine their own hours each week. We ask for an 8-10 hour/week commitment, but this will fluctuate depending on how busy the lab is. We will also be sure to provide flexibility in this requirement, especially around holidays and stressful periods such as exams.

Please send a copy of your resume, cover letter, unofficial transcript, and weekly availability (including weekends) to kaila.bruer@utoronto.ca and labmanager@kangleelab.com
