After-School Learning Programs for Children
A) Newcomer Homework Club
What: Homework support program for elementary children (grades 3 – 8) of newcomer families living in
Regent Park.
Where: Lord Dufferin Public School, 350 Parliament St. between Gerrard and Dundas.
When: Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

B) Scadding Court Community Centre After-School Homework Help
What: Homework support, reading, and other learning activities for elementary school children.
Where: 707 Dundas West at Bathurst
When: Mondays, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Learning Programs for Preschoolers/Toddlers
Alexandra Park Community Centre
What: An Early Years learning program for preschoolers and toddlers involving story time, arts and
crafts, and teaching basic literacy and numeracy concepts.
Where: 105 Grange Court (Dundas St. West and Spadina Ave.).
When: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12 to 2:30 pm – Volunteers act as Reading Buddies for
preschoolers (3 year olds)
Mondays to Fridays 10:30 to 11:30 am Volunteers lead story time, teaching basic literacy and numeracy
to toddlers (2 year olds)

Alexandra Park Community Centre
What: An Early Years learning program for preschoolers and toddlers involving story time, arts and
crafts, and teaching basic literacy and numeracy concepts.

preschoolers (3 year olds)

Tutoring for High School Students
A) Heydon Park Secondary School
What: Heydon Park is a career focused high school for girls who have special learning needs.
Volunteers provide one-to- one tutoring and/or in-class support to students.
Where: 70 D’Arcy St. at Beverley (just north of Dundas)
When: Minimum 1 school period, any weekday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Adult ESL Programs
A) Newcomer ESL
What: Adult ESL program helping newcomers in Regent Park meet their personal learning
goals. Tutors work with learners one to one or in small groups.
Where: Parliament and Gerrard
When: Tuesdays and/or Thursdays: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
No prior teaching experience required but ideal for those in TESL programs or other teacher
education programs. Programs begin in October and continue to the following May.
B) Alexandra Park ESL
What: Adult ESL program helping newcomers in the Alexandra Park community meet their
personal learning goals. Tutors work with learners one to one or in small groups.
Where: Dundas and Spadina
When: Mondays from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.

No prior teaching experience required but ideal for those in TESL programs or other teacher education programs. Programs begin in October and continue to the following May.
Additional Information:
A total of 6 hours of tutor training is provided in two 3 hour segments (mandatory), followed by other
professional development opportunities. All training is free. The next training sessions will be in early fall
2017 at the Frontier College main office, specific days and times to be announced.
