We’re recruiting subcommittee members for the 2020-2021 school year!

Being a part of a subcommittee is a great way to meet other psychology students, plan events to assist others, and to have fun. Each subcommittee will accept applications in their own way.

To be eligible for any Subcommittee Member position, you must be:

  • Currently taking 0.5 credit PSY course, or
  • Enrolled in one of the PSY subject POSt(s)

All applications are due Saturday, October 17, 11:59 PM EST, with the exception of Seminar Subcommittee.


Academic Subcommittee

The PSA Academic Committee is responsible for facilitating events and programs meant to empower undergraduate psychology students by preparing them to take on the various academic opportunities available at the university.  

Committee members will be directly responsible for helping to plan and host traditional events meant to prepare students for upcoming evaluations such as the Dr. Freud Competition. Committee members will also get the chance to help coordinate more long term programs like the Mentorship Program, which is designed to help students transition through their coursework and university lives successfully. 

We care most about the kind of ideas and energy you will bring to the team, and we want to provide more opportunities for you to have a greater say in your experience. Committee members will be expected to help brainstorm for events and potential projects, be engaged in cross-committee work, and even lead events!

Seminar Subcommittee

The Seminar Coordinators at the PSA are looking for brilliant subcommittee members!

We aim to hold interesting online seminars with professors, faculty members, researchers and graduate students. These include our ‘Psychology &’ and ‘Journeys in Psychology’ series. We hope to inspire the undergraduate Psychology community to actively attend PSA events, learn new things and discover opportunities within the field!

As a sub-committee member, you’ll be exposed to a wide range of fun, engaging and resume-building opportunities such as networking and leadership skills, while also further immersing yourself in the discipline of Psychology!

Expectations from this role:

  • Come up with creative seminar ideas
  • Form a query-bank of interesting thoughts and questions you (and others!) can ask the guest speakers
  • Be involved in preparation for the seminars through presentation and game making,
  • Maintain enthusiasm and answer any logistical questions posed by the attendees
  • Attend other events as a sub-committee member!

Social Subcommittee

Hello! Thank you for your interest in joining the social subcommittee! As social coordinators we host several social events for the undergraduate psychology community. This year we will be programming and running virtual events. 

Being a subcommittee member is a great way to network, become more involved in your program and gain valuable leadership skills

Expectations from this role: 

  • Contribute to the event-planning process
  • Be willing to put in extra effort to tasks related to executing events and to finish those tasks in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate creativity and enthusiasm
  • Attend events as a volunteer

Conference Subcommittee

The Conference Committee organizes at least one large-scale (80+ person) conference per academic year, and is seeking 1-3 eager team members to join us.

If you’re interested in learning how online conferencing and event-planning works, brainstorming cool speaker ideas, sending some excellently-worded emails to professors, securing sponsorships, and having a relatively good time as a team during the pre-apocalypse, WE WANT YOU!
